The short version

FX News Group reported on June 26, 2026 that Tim Plummer has taken over as CEO of prop firm FunderPro, replacing Gary Mullen. Plummer simultaneously becomes CEO of sister-company NextTrade (an offshore CFD broker) and continues as CEO of Deus X Markets, the broker-as-a-service operation that sits in the same Deus X Capital group structure.

For an industry still digesting the 2024–2026 wave of closures (see our shutdown tracker), the appointment of leadership with deep CFD-broker experience to a major prop firm is consistent with the broader trend of consolidation under more established financial-services leadership.

About Tim Plummer

Plummer is London-based and brings significant retail brokerage experience:

  • Capital.com — Head of Product Strategy
  • IG Group — eight years, ending as Head of Platform Innovation in 2022
  • Earlier roles at Vantage, Marex, and Sucden Financial

This is a meaningfully different leadership profile from many prop firms, which often founder-led or had backgrounds primarily in retail FX brokerage rather than the regulated, listed-broker side of the industry.

Why it matters

Three observations:

Leadership pedigree is a transparency signal. As we cover in who actually runs a prop firm, corporate transparency — including who actually leads the company — correlates with operational durability. Naming a CEO with verifiable, multi-year tenure at major brokerages is a stronger signal than the anonymous-operator model that characterised many of the failed firms.

The Deus X Capital group structure is now more legible. A single CEO leading FunderPro (prop), NextTrade (offshore CFDs), and Deus X Markets (broker-as-a-service) makes the corporate relationships easier to track for outside observers and traders.

It does not change FunderPro’s terms. Leadership changes typically take months to translate into rule, payout, or platform changes. Anyone currently evaluating FunderPro should still apply the standard checks from our shortlist guide and red flags guide against the actual current terms.

What to check

For traders considering FunderPro under the new leadership:

  • Confirm current evaluation, drawdown, and payout terms on the firm’s official site (these can change with leadership).
  • Re-read the terms-of-service modification clause as covered in our retroactive rule changes guide.
  • Track whether the leadership transition is followed by changes in platform offering, jurisdiction, or product structure.
